Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Through Education.
Project: St John's School, Kibera Slum
St Johns School is located in the heart of the Kibera slum (Kenya) - largest slum in Africa! It's roughly the size of NY Central Park and is home to almost 1 million people.
St. John's primary school was started by Josiah Munyutu in 2002, with the aim of helping the orphans, street children, and the poor. It now has over 400 students.
Our Goals

We are constantly trying to improve the school by building new and upgraded classrooms, providing essential learning resources and paying teachers salaries.
Here are some of our upcoming projects:​
- Build and fit out a computer lab.
- Increase the teachers salaries
- Help purchase the land on which St John's sits.
- Improved school feeding program.
Our Feeding Program
Most of Kibera slum residents live in extreme poverty, earning less than $1.00 per day. Unemployment rates are high. A lot of the students go to school hungry because they can't afford food. Learning on an empty stomach is really difficult, that's why we have introduced our school feeding program in partnership with Ololo Lodge and Farm. Giving every student a meal so they have fuel to learn.
The Impact of Covid
Covid changed the world and negatively impacted so many people, including the students of St Johns School. Many parents couldn't leave the slum due to restrictions which is where a lot of their jobs were located, leaving them unemployed.
Despite Covid setbacks we still managed to have an incredible impact and during Covid, we kept 11 teachers employed, sent 9 students off to high school on a scholarship, and continued with our feeding program. These students are so resilient and we included this fun video of them because no matter what, they are always full of light, love, and positive energy. They constantly inspire us and we're so privileged to be in the position to support St Johns School.
